Tera Copy
Have you noticed that the biggest problem when you're organizing your files and folders is moving them back and forth, or copying them? This can become a very time-consumming and nerve-wracking process.
In case Windows' "copy" and "paste" functions don't really please you anymore, start looking for alternative measures.
TeraCopy is a free software designed to speed up the task when it comes to moving and copying files.
The program is very easy to use. It's integrated in the context menu, so you can select "TeraCopy" instead of Windows' "copy" function, or you can open the user interface, and input the source file or folder, as well as the output folder.
If you click the "More" button, you can also see the size and status of each file found in the respective folder, and whether it was successfully copied or not.
Our test was made with a 9.89GB folder (let the record show we installed the software on Windows 7). TeraCopy managed to copy it in 10 minutes and 47 seconds, and the status for each file read “Ok”.
But the surprising part is that Windows managed to copy the same folder in 7 minutes and 41 seconds. So, Windows is clearly the winner!
The annoying thing about TeraCopy, is the fact that Windows' normal copy, move and paste functions are overwritten by TeraCopy while it is installed. That means that when you are selecting “copy”, “cut” or “paste”, you are actually selecting TeraCopy without even knowing it.
In this case, if you want to make tests of your own, you have to uninstall this software.
Fortunately, CPU and memory are minimally used while TeraCopy is busy with a task. This is why the application in question is not immediately excluded from the table. It consumes less than Windows, so you can still do other activities without the jamming the system.
All in all, TeraCopy is clearly weaker than Windows when it comes to speed, but it doesn't eat so much memory. You'd better test it for yourself.
